Floyd Patterson 02/23/2019

Floyd Paul Patterson, age 74 of Somerset, WI, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN.  Floyd was born the son of Paul and Helena (Behe) Patterson on June 2, 1944 in Akron, OH.  He spent his childhood years in Lilly, PA before moving to the Detroit, MI area.  Floyd graduated from Redford High School with the class of 1962.  He attended Wayne State University.  On September 9, 1966, Floyd was married to Donna Bloink in Grosse Pointe, MI.  He served in the Army from 1967 – 1969.  He returned to Wayne State University and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.  Floyd was a central accounting manager for Montgomery Wards.  His career brought the family to White Bear Lake, MN in 1973 and then to Somerset, WI in 1978.  After Montgomery Wards closed, Floyd went to WITC in New Richmond and received an associate degree in computers.  He worked for Smarte Carte as director of management information systems from 1985 until retiring in 2005.  Floyd was the treasurer for the White Bear Lake Montessori School, helped start the Somerset Hockey Association, and was a member of the Somerset American Legion.  He loved to play cards, travel, camp and canoe, and was a wine enthusiast.  He enjoyed hunting and his hobby farm where he kept various animals, grew large gardens and even had fruit.  Floyd was always sharing plants with his friends and neighbors.  He was an outgoing, caring person who was always willing to help.  He was an excellent husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helena Patterson.  Floyd is survived by his wife, Donna Patterson; sons, Byron (Shauna) Patterson, Tyson (Deena) Patterson; grandson, Davin Patterson; sister, Elizabeth (Konstantinos) Neamonitakis; brother, Carl (Karen) Patterson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  A Memorial Service was held on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10 am at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services 728 S Knowles Avenue New Richmond, WI.  Visitation was also be Friday from 9-10 am at the funeral home.  Interment was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.  Memorials may be directed to:  Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 331 PO Box 62 River Falls, WI 54022.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
