Eleanor Freeman 10/20/2023

Eleanor Harris Freeman of Akron, OH since 1998 passed away October 20, 2023. Eleanor was born in Portage WI Nov. 8, 1927, to the Rev. John W. Harris and Attabelle Harris, and lived in several towns in Wisconsin, moving due to her father’s ministry. She moved to River Falls when she was 13 and graduated from River Falls High School in 1945, and always considered River Falls WI her hometown. Eleanor graduated from Northwestern University in 1949, taught kindergarten in Crystal Lake IL for two years, and married Richard H. Freeman, her high school sweetheart, in Dec. 1950, while he was home on leave from the Air Force. They were married for nearly 58 years before his passing in 2008. Eleanor spent her life in service to others through many volunteer endeavors, through her Methodist church, her children’s’ schools, hospitals, and several other organizations. In addition to other relatives, Eleanor is survived by her four daughters Christine, Sarah, Margaret, and Laura, three sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service was held in Akron on what would have been her 96th birthday. A graveside inurnment service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls, on Saturday, May 11 at 11:00, with Eleanor’s niece, Rev. Jane Eesley, presiding. A luncheon will be held after the service, at The West Wind. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
