Edna Fernstrom 11/23/2018

Edna Fernstrom, age 100 of New Richmond, WI, died on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Deerfield Gables in New Richmond. Edna was born the daughter of August and Louise (Reddig) Ostermann on March 10, 1918 in Racine, WI. She grew up near Turtle Lake, WI attending the Midway Grade School. On August 20, 1938, Edna was married to Russell Fernstrom at Zion Lutheran Church in Comstock, WI. They farmed near Turtle Lake until 1949. Edna was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed getting together for coffee with friends and watching her “stories.” She was known for her cooking and canning, especially her pickles, baked beans, and “roll-up” pancakes. Edna liked to sew and could make just about anything. She grew a wonderful garden and was an exceptional mother and grandmother to her family and many extended family. Edna was a strong woman of conviction who was resourceful and independent. She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Louise Ostermann; husband, Russell Fernstrom; daughter, Rusalind Fernstrom; granddaughter, Laurie Fernstrom; and siblings, Ella (John) Kunkel, Freda (Tom) McGuine, Leona Mengel, Marie (George) Goelz, Evelyn (Van) Vaniman, Milton Ostermann, Bud Ostermann, and Eileen Dahlgren. Edna is survived by her children, George (Lynn) Fernstrom, Glenn (Kari Blair) Fernstrom, and Marie (Karl) Mathys; grandchildren, Karrie (Mike) Lynch, Jennifer Fernstrom, Kristen (Kyle) Kraft, Nick (Kirsten) Fernstrom, Erin (Ryan) Vanasse, Christopher Fernstrom, Nicole Fernstrom, Gillian Fernstrom, and Glenn Fernstrom; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Norah, Samantha, Ashley, Owen, Isaac, Henry, Evelyn, Bryant, Wyatt, Garrett, Jaden, and Elijah; sister, Lillian Hall; sisters-in-law, Joretta Ostermann, Roxanne Ostermann; brother-in-law, John Dahlgren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 365 West River Drive New Richmond, WI. Visitation was also on Wednesday from 10-11 am at the church. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Almena, WI. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
