Drena Egan 02/04/2024

Drena Mae Egan died on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Amery, WI. She was born the daughter of Hattie and Wendell Pond on December 25, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington. Drena grew up in Peever, South Dakota, attending Peever High School. Drena married Vernon Egan on July 19, 1963 in Sisseton, South Dakota. She stayed at home raising their four children, Rose, William, Allison, and Sheilah. Drena loved watching sports, especially NBA and NHL. She was a philanthropist, donating to the Salvation Army and The National Wildlife Federation. Drena was sociable, decisive, and determined.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, William “Bill;” brother, Theron Pond; and infant sister, Sheryl Pond. Drena is survived by her husband, Vernon; daughters, Rose (Wallace Sr.) Hellberg, Allison (Jason) Springer, and Sheilah (Sterling) Fondren; grandchildren, Wallace Hellberg Jr, Travis Hellberg, and Jessica Hellberg, William Jr, Sara White, and Thomas, Charles Holerud Jr. and Heather Wilson, Vernon Egan and Jacob Anderson; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Diane (Donald) Fonder, Bradley Pond, and Renee De Palma; sister-in-law, Ellen Pond; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 1:00PM at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave) in New Richmond with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Interment was in New Richmond Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

    My deepest sympathy to Drena’s family. She is my 1st cousin. We grew up about 12 miles apart in South Dakota. She was a funny, witty person. Rest in Peace, we will miss you. Janell Kurrasch Bier. Milbank, South Dakota.

    I’m so sorry to hear of the struggles and loss of Drena, my aunt, Vernon your bride, Rose, Alisson, & Sheilah your mother, along with grandchildren and other family members.

    May Our Almighty God draw your heart closer to understanding His great love for you and your family. May He protect, guide, and keep you in the palm of His hand. May He give you faith, courage, hope, peace, and strength to face what lies ahead.

    I pray as you reflect upon life’s fond cherishing moments you shared with Drena throughout your life, may you be comforted and blessed with peace and joy. May it bring healing in the years to come.
