Dr. James Cicero of River Falls, WI, age 73, died on Friday, October 7, 2011, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, MN. Jim was born the son of Frank and Mary (Balma) Cicero on March 10, 1938, in Chicago, IL. On December 20, 1958, he married June Kastein in Western Springs, IL. Jim graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1963. He served as Captain in the United States Army in Munich, Germany. After completing his service, they moved to River Falls, WI, where Jim was on the staff of the River Falls Medical Clinic. Later he was appointed Medical Director at the Minnesota State Prison at Stillwater. In 1975 Jim became the Associate Director of Emergency Medicine at St. Paul Ramsey Hospital, now Regions Hospital. Three years later he was named Chief of Emergency Medicine and served in that position until 1998. Under Jim’s direction, Regions Hospital launched a residency in emergency medicine, which is now nationally recognized. Jim was active in the community, serving on boards of the Union Gospel Mission, the River Falls Area Hospital, and the First Covenant Church in River Falls. Jim participated in several mission trips with the Good News Project out of Wausau, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents. Jim is survived by his wife, June Cicero; children, James (Debbie Johnson) B. Cicero, Jill (Robert) Cicero Schulz, and David Joseph Cicero; grandsons, Jake and Ryan Schulz; siblings, Frank (Janice) Cicero, Jr., and Nancy Cicero; sister-in-law, Janet (Arthur) Klem; nieces and nephew. A memorial service was held Sunday, October 16, 2011, 3:30 pm, at the First Covenant Church in River Falls. The service followed visitation from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Union Gospel Mission, 77 Ninth Street, East Saint Paul, MN 55101. Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
