Douglas Hoyt Soderquist, age 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Orchard View Terrace in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
Born in New Richmond on November 11, 1931, to Gustaf Emanuel and Mildred Florence (Smith) Soderquist, Doug grew up in Star Prairie, attending country school before graduating from New Richmond High School with the Class of 1950. It was there he met his future wife, Patricia Ann Harrington, beginning a partnership that would span more than seven decades. They were married on April 11, 1953, and together welcomed six children. Doug was a devoted husband and father whose love for his family and good humor defined the home he and Pat created.
A painting and decorating contractor by trade, Doug was well known throughout the New Richmond community. His kindness and social nature made him a friend to many and a good neighbor, earning him lifelong friendships and countless shared memories. He proudly served in the National Guard and was committed to helping others, donating blood several times a year for over 65 years and volunteering for his church and the local food shelf. Doug also took great pride in working alongside his son, Allan, who joined him in the painting business and shared more than 40 years of work at his side.
Doug found joy in simple pleasures and enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, playing horseshoes, and spirited card games. He was also a lifelong fan of his alma mater, the New Richmond Tigers, rarely missing a home football or basketball game. Supporting local athletes brought him great pride, and he especially loved following his grandchildren’s sports and school activities. A true Wisconsin sports enthusiast, he remained a loyal supporter of the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Carol Ann.
Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Pat; his children Allan (Victoria Shilts) Soderquist, Joseph Soderquist, Marilyn (Edward) Zimmerman, Bonnie (Alan) Kiecker, and James (Sheri Olien) Soderquist; and his grandchildren Holly (Kent) Butler, Heather (Joe) Altermatt, Hannah (Mark) Hackbarth, Hayden (Courtney) Zimmerman, Kelsey and Melissa Soderquist, Maria (Josh) Berends, and Lorelle, Bennett, and Samuel Kiecker. He is also lovingly remembered by his great‑grandchildren Ella, Easton, Landon, Lou, Liam, Hattie, Hoyt, Callen, Conway, and Bowen, along with many extended family members and friends.
The family offers its sincere gratitude to Dr. Benjamin Dummer and staff at Westfields Hospital, Lakeview Hospice, and the compassionate team at Orchard View Terrace for the exceptional care and kindness they provided to Doug in his final days.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 12:00PM at Immaculate Conception Church, New Richmond, Wisconsin, with visitation starting at 10:00AM. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery immediately following mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Five Loaves Food Shelf in New Richmond.

My condolences to the Soderquist family. I have such happy memories of my mom (Becky) taking my siblings and me to visit Uncle Doug and Aunt Pat as kids. They always welcomed us lovingly into their home as if we were their own grandchildren. What a life well lived and a legacy left! May Doug rest in eternal peace.
I was very sad to hear that Doug had passed my condolences to the family. You’ll be in my prayers.
