Dorothy Leier 07/27/2011

Dorothy L. Leier, age 91 of Somerset, died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond.  Dorothy was born the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Cook) Tippel on February 5, 1920 in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Dorothy began her career working as a maid.  She met her future husband, August at a dance.  On January 27, 1940, Dorothy was married to August R. Leier at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Roseville, Minnesota.  She worked at Brown and Bigelow for a few years before staying home to raise their children.  They lived in St. Paul until moving to Roberts, Wisconsin in 1959.  The family stayed in Roberts until moving to Somerset in the late 1960’s.  Dorothy’s family came first.  She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved to cook and bake, tend to her raspberry bushes, can, garden, and beat you at cribbage.  She was a friendly, patient woman who always put others first and shared whatever she had.  She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, August Leier; daughter-in-law, Claudia Leier; and grandson, Matthew Leier.  Dorothy is survived by her children, Judy (Jerry) Mikunda, Ron Leier, Don Leier, Ben (Cindy) Leier, and Debbie (Bill) Reed; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond.  Visitation was also Saturday from 1:00-2:00 pm before the service at the church.  Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of New Richmond.
