Denton Scott Pomahatch, age 62 of Coon Rapids, MN died on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. He was born on April 7, 1963, in Hallock, Minnesota, to Stephen and SuzAnne Pomahatch. Denton spent most of his childhood in Mounds View, Minnesota. He developed a love for hockey at an early age, participating for many years as a goalie. He attended Irondale High School and later graduated from Pepin High School with the Class of 1981.
After high school, Denton proudly served his country in the United State Army. While serving in Germany, Denton was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Though his life changed in that moment, his spirit, humor, and interests never did. He eventually made his home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota with his wife, Gabrielle.
Denton was known for his deep love of music, sports, and collecting. He especially enjoyed gathering hockey memorabilia, Rolling Stones items, and anything connected to his favorite teams—the Minnesota Wild, Twins, and Vikings. Concerts were one of his greatest joys, and he treasured the many opportunities he had to meet his favorite performers. Denton also loved spending time playing trivia at Boston’s near his home.
Generous at heart, Denton quietly supported causes close to him, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Feed My Starving Children, and Disabled American Veterans. Those who knew him best remember his kindness, loyalty, and the genuine way he showed up for the people he cared about.
He is preceded in death by his mother, SuzAnne Nelson; brother, Ryan Pomahatch; and former wife, Gabrielle Pomahatch. Denton is survived by his father, Stephen (Annette) Pomahatch; step-father, Marty Nelson; sisters, Denise (Chris) Schmidt and Nicole (Mike) Rundquist; nieces and nephews, Jason Linder, Leah Linder, Mick Linder, Noah Pomahatch, Brandon Rundquist, Madasyn Rundquist; great-nephews, Jase and Ryker; and many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends who will miss him deeply.
A Celebration of Denton’s Life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2 pm at Sabylund Lutheran Church W11137 CTH-J, Pepin, WI 54769. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 12 – 2 pm at the church. Interment will be in the Sabylund Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
