David T. Smith 02/10/2019

David T. Smith, age 44, of Star Prairie, WI died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 10, 2019. He was born September 15, 1974 in New Richmond, WI. Dave graduated from Hudson High School in 1992. He married Janelle Mielke at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Somerset on October 11, 2002. Dave was employed at Schwing America, Inc of White Bear Lake for 22 years. He worked as a welder, Weld Inspector and recently promoted to Quality Manager. He was proud to achieve the rare certification of International Welding Specialist (IWS). Dave worked hard to play hard. He enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and bear hunting. He had a love for antique tractors and loved living on the lake. Dave was devoted to his family and friends. He always offered a helping hand. Dave is survived by his wife, Janelle Smith; mother, Diane (Dave) Almich; mother-in-law, Carmen Mielke; and many loving family and friends. Dave is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Smith and father-in-law, Douglas Mielke. Visitation was held Friday, February 15, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave) in New Richmond, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church (141 Church Hill Road) in Somerset, WI on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior. Interment was in St. Anne’s Catholic Church Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

    We will forever miss Dave at Schwing America. Dave was a great person and was always there for us, helping anyone, anywhere and anytime. He has left an indelible mark and legacy of success and friendship at SAI and some big shoes to fill. Thank you, Dave, for your 22 years of excellent service and friendship.
