David Bradford Pickard passed away on March 28, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on January 20, 1948 and grew up in Clearbrook, a small town in northern Minnesota. After high school he attended college in Michigan where her studied architecture. This is where he first got started in the construction business, eventually meticulously building million dollar homes in Michigan and Illinois, and beautiful homes for his aunt and uncle in Minnesota and Georgia, one being on the north shore of Lake Superior.
His main interests were carpentry, site-seeing/traveling the US, visiting state and national parks and canoeing / camping, relaxing around a “clean” campfire with a “properly chilled” Budweiser. Besides trips with his Life Partner Ginny, David organized many “cousins” canoe trips on the Namekagon, St. Croix, Snake, Chippewa and the Black River, camping on sandbars. He also supported the “Great River Rumble” canoe group on their trips on the Mississippi River on which Ginny and her friend Mary canoed several sections from St. Cloud to St. Louis. At times David ran the Safety Boat and assisted with gear.
David and Ginny made several trips for weddings and family celebrations to Buffalo New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He also enjoyed reading adventure and historical books and watching Jeopardy with Ginny, seeing who could yell out the answer first. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan.
David is survived by his Life Partner Ginny Gartman, brothers Bruce (Angela) Pickard and John (Linda) Pickard, sisters Annette (Ted) Hildebrandt and Laurie (Herb) Grover, aunt Jean Smith, uncle Maurice (Sally) Pickard, aunt Merlin Schroeder, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Margaret Pickard, aunt Virginia Briggs, and uncle John Paul Carson.
Arrangements are pending with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
