David Middleton 10/04/2016

David Haynes Middleton died unexpectedly Tuesday October 4, 2016 while working in his beloved  5 acre prairie at his home in  Roberts WI.  Born to Dr. William Drummond Middleton and Elizabeth Howe Middleton in Davenport, IA. on July 8, 1935.  He is survived by his wife LaVonne Olson Middleton, son John David Middleton, daughter-in-law Jocelyn Kalajian, and granddaughter, Sylvia Louise Middleton, Mahtomedi. MN; brother Frederic Howe Middleton, sisters Susan Modeman Cook and Mary Louise Cook, sister-in-law Joan Klebs, brother-in-law Ronald Klebs,  fifteen nieces
and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, brother William D. Middleton and sister Elizabeth Howe Middleton.  David served in the US Navy with a rank of Lieutenant 1957-60.  David received a BS in Mechanical Engineering  UW-Madison and  a MBA UW -Oshkosh. He was the captain of the UW -Madison Swim team and was an All American in Swimming. He worked for 37 years at Consolidated Papers, Wisconsin Rapids’ Engineering Department, coached a YMCA Swim team, was president of Community Concerts Ass.; enjoyed classical music, international folk-dancing, birdwatching and especially sailing both locally and on Lake Michigan.  Since 1998,  living in rural St Croix country, Dave restored five acres of prairie and bird habitat. He participated in over 30 years of Christmas Bird Counts, volunteered with The Prairie Enthusiasts, attended concerts in Minneapolis and St Paul, gardened, biked and hiked, and travelled to 20 countries on birding trips.  Memorials may be made to: The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra PO Box 581213 Minneapolis, MN 55458; The Nature Conservancy 633 West  Main St Madison, WI 53703; The Prairie Enthusiasts 110 S.
