David Helver 04/14/2024

David (Dave) Paul Helver, age 66, passed away at his sister’s home in River Falls, Wisconsin on April 14, 2024. Dave grew up walking distance to the beach in Santa Cruz Ca., where he would often be seen working on his 1969 Ford Mustang in the drive and ‘cruising’ Beach Street at the Boardwalk. He graduated from Harbor High School in 1974. Never venturing far from his hometown of Santa Cruz. He started working in the trucking industry, driving trucks after graduation at age 17. He enjoyed his work as a short hall driver. It kept him close to home where he had made many strong and lasting friendships from childhood and deep connections with the locals who treated him like family.
Dave enjoyed scenic cruises, watching NCIS, Jag and The Price is Right, but his passion was his muscle car. He had a dark blue beautifully restored 1969 that was his pride and joy. Though he rarely drove it in his later years, he was with it always. He would spend his weekends preening it to glassy perfection and would often be found standing alongside it in the driveway drinking a cold beer with a friend or neighbor.
Dave was a modest reserved man. He was quick with a joke and slow with a hug, so when a hug or an “I love you” came your way you really knew you were special to him. He loved and appreciated his sister deeply and told her often. He enjoyed his life in River Falls and marveled at the tenacity of the locals going about town in the deep snow and cold weather. He would often say he had the best view in the house and “you’re going out in this?” (Foul weather)
Dave is survived by his sister Cheryl and her wife Karen. They were at his side in the comforts of home when he passed. Waiting for him at the Door to Heaven was his Mother Arline and his grandparents Fred, and Virginia Feakes.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

I deeply regret never getting the chance to meet the man i have heard so much about. The stories my mothers would tell me would always bring a smile to everyone’s faces. And while I never got a chance to meet him personally ,I’m sure he is smiling down at all the love he is getting and the support his family is showing to each other in this very difficult time. My love and wishes to everyone, especially the moms.
