Darren Hampton, age 52, devoted follower of Christ, went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2021. Darren was born in Fulton, Missouri on December 20, 1968 to Delbert (Buster) and Sylvia Hampton. He was a hard worker from the start, having been the youngest newspaper boy in Calloway County at the age of eight. Eager to serve our country, Darren joined the Army National Guard and completed basic training a year before graduating from Fulton High School in 1987 where he played many sports, but had a passion for wrestling. After graduating from Westminster College, he continued to serve in the Army National Guard and went to work for the St. Louis Police Department where over the next five years, he earned many awards including Officer of the Year. It was during this time that he also met his future wife, Lynn (Goerl). In 1999, Darren accepted a position as a special agent with Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, a position he would hold for the next twenty-one years, relocating him to field offices in North Carolina, Washington DC and St. Paul, Minnesota where he held his final assignment. In September 2, 2000, Darren married the love of his life Lynn. They were blessed with four children. Darren served in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004 and received the Army Commendation Medal, retiring as Captain from the Army Service in 2007. Darren was proud of his family and whether coaching his sons in wrestling and trap or listening to his daughter sing, he could be found in the stands cheering on the kids in one of their many activities. A man of many projects, he was never afraid to engage new experiences and took his family on many adventures including spending time at the beach, canoeing down the Current River, hunting and most recently, ice fishing in the “tundra.” Darren loved the Lord and was proud to stand up for his faith. He was a man of strong moral character and is survived by his wife, Lynn; children, Elliot, James, Andrew and Melinda; mother, Sylvia; brothers, Delbert Jr. (Megan) and Dennis (Carol); a niece, nephews, other relatives and friends. I was fortunate to work with Darren in Fayetteville. I loved him from the first moment I met him. He always had time to answer a question or to help with a problem. He had a great sense of humor and was always upbeat and positive. He lead by example and was a fantastic leader. A real hero!❤️🙏
I’m so very heartbroken for the entire Hampton family. An important piece of the family puzzle is missing now….but it will never be forgotten. May the Lord provide strength and comfort during this time to all who loved and knew Darren. I’m there for you Maw…..always.

I knew Darren when I worked for his mom Sylvia. He always has such a zest for life. I’m just so very sorry he has passed. So much love and prayers for his family.
Great and friendly person, I met and had the opportunity to briefly work with him in St. Paul. Always there to make sure the team has everything needed, no matter what. He will be missed.
Darren RIP, until Valhalla.
Darren was a great person with a great heart. Truly he will be sadly missed. 2Corinthians 5:8, we are assured “….to be absent from this body, is to be present with the Lord.” It’s comforting to know that Darren is now in the presence of the Lord. My thoughts and prayers for comfort and strength to all his Family and friends.
Darren & Lynn became family to us as part of the ATF Omaha Field Office. So many fond memories of a guy with a huge heart and thirst for adventure. God’s comfort to those who are grieving his loss. So thankful that we will be together in eternity. Rest in Peace, Friend…you are already so missed.
I met Darren in the year 2000. We attended ATF’s Basic Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA. We were both assigned to the Kansas City Field Division. During that time, the agents and inspectors (now known as investigators) trained together the 1st 4 weeks of training. He sat behind me in class. He was always nice and cordial. Ready to lend a hand when needed. Prayers and expressions of sympathy go out to the family. I would like to leave you with this thought ,’Remember that behind every dark cloud, the sun still shines!’
Dennis and Hampton Family: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. God Bless, Karen Potter Pickett
RIP, Darren. We were blessed to have you as a friend and brother. ‘Til we meet again.
I worked with Darren in Fayetteville, NC while on the Federal Task Force. Darren always had time to answer my questions and to give pointers. He was always talking about his wife and kids. He loved his outdoor life and little farm. He will be missed but not forgotten.
Darren and I worked together at ATF in the Kansas City Field Division and again in the Charlotte Field Division. We became very good friends over the years and he was great to work with. We had a lot of laughs together. He knew his job well and was simply a good person that treated everyone with respect. I will miss my friend but he will always be remembered. My prayers and thoughts are with Lynn and the kids. Darren is home now and in a better place and we will all see each other again. Rest in peace Darren.
What an amazing husband, father and friend. I worked with Darren in Fayetteville and clearly saw they love he has for his family, his work and his God. It is hard to believe he is gone but one of his last text from him was at Easter and he said “He is Risen”! What a great reminder Darren is in heaven watching over those he loves.
RIP brother. God Bless you and your family.
Sorry for your loss.
