Danis Richard Carlson, Sr. age 68 of River Falls died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home. He was born the son of Nils and Rheybon (Demick) Carlson on February 27, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dan served in the Army after high school. He started his own business, Sonic Bloom, with the goal of feeding the world with organic grown foods. He traveled to many countries to start research farms to help people learn ways to feed themselves. He was nominated 3 times for the Nobel Peace Prize in the area of Economics. Dan also holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest grown indoor plant, a Purple Passion Plant. He was married to Patricia Brown in 1965. They moved to River Falls in 1989. Dan enjoyed riding his Harley and watching football, especially the Packers. He was a strong willed, compassionate person who loved to teach others. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nils and Rheybon Carlson; and grandson, Austin Hammill. Dan is survived by his wife, Patti Carlson; children, Danis Carlson, Jr., Justine Hammill, and Jason Carlson; grandchildren, Cody (Kristine) Hammill, Samuel Carlson, Samantha Hammill, and Justin Hammill; brother, Lee (Maureen) Carlson; and many other relatives and friends. A visitation was held Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in River Falls. Interment was Monday, February 6, 2012 at 12:30 pm, assembly area 4 in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
