Curtis Nelson 10/15/2013

Curtis L. Nelson age 83 of Stockholm passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Plum City Care Center.  He was born the youngest of four children to Waldemar and Laura (Larson) Nelson on November 13, 1929 in Maiden Rock Township.  Curt attended grade school at 16 School House and graduated from Maiden Rock High School in 1948.  He served his country in the U.S. Army.  When he returned home, he purchased his own farm and throughout the years, continued farming along with his brother and his father.  On August 5, 1953, Curt married Gloria “Babe” White at Sabylund Lutheran Church.  Curt served on the Maiden Rock Town Board, Pepin School Board, Lund Mission Covenant Church Board, and was a Volunteer on the Lund Fire Department.  He was an active member and chaplain of the American Legion William E. Geer Post 158 of Maiden Rock.  In his younger years, he enjoyed going north hunting with his family, in later years, he enjoyed whitetail hunting close to home with family and friends.  Curt also enjoyed singing in quartets, choirs and listening to Gaither music.  He loved horses, horse pulls and John Deere equipment.   After Curt retired, he continued farming with his son Mitchell on the family farm.  In retirement, Curt and Gloria spent winters in Arizona, where they made numerous new friends.   He will be missed by his wife, Gloria; son, Mitchell (Janene) Nelson; daughter, Lori (Tom) Foley; grandchildren, Brian (Laci) Nelson, Traci Nelson; great grandchildren, Aaron Nelson, Archie Pickering, sisters, Lois Edstrom, Mae (Mel) Dahlberg; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Gloria Nelson; brother-in-law, Carl Edstrom; niece, Jamey Midboe; and son-in-law, Arnie Johns.  A memorial service was held Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 am at Lund Mission Covenant Church in rural Stockholm.  Visitation was also Saturday from 9-11 am at the church.  Interment was in Marie Lund Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion William E. Geer Post 158 of Maiden Rock.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Maiden Rock.
