Claire L. (Cheaney) Germain, age 72 of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2013 at her home. Claire was born the daughter of Marko and Anna (Nagel) Kokan on March 31, 1941 in Pewaukee, WI. She grew up in Pewaukee and was a graduate of Waukesha High School. After high school, Claire worked for Payne and Dolan Asphalt. On November 26, 1960 she married Fred Cheaney at St. Joseph’s Church in Waukesha. They moved to the Somerset area in 1976. Claire worked as a cook for the Somerset School District and a number of area nursing homes. She also worked as an LPN, was a den leader for cub scouts, and was a member of St. Anne’s Church. Fred passed away on June 12, 1992. On August 5, 1995, Claire was married to Melvin Germain at St. Anne’s Church in Somerset. She enjoyed cooking and baking, ceramics, trips to the casino, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who was straight forward and enjoyed talking to people. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marko and Anna Kokan; first husband, Fred Cheaney; daughter-in-law, Patricia Germain; and siblings, Katie, Mariann, Carl, Joe, Frances, and Agnes. Claire is survived by her husband, Melvin Germain; children, Cathy (John) Rivard, Andy (Kim) Cheaney, Ed (Laurie) Cheaney, Scott (Tresa) Germain, Shane Germain; granchildren, Emily (Adam), Michael, Allison, Caitlyn, Anna, Mikayla, Jared, Samantha, Alyssa, Zach, Jared, Cadey, Lauren, and Connor; siblings, Alice, Caroline, Linda, Martin, and Tony. Memorial Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 3-8 pm with a Prayer Service at 8 pm at the Bakken-Young Beebe Chapel in New Richmond. Interment will be at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waukesha, WI. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services Beebe Chapel of New Richmond.
