“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
On April 9, 2026 God called Cathie home to eternal peace and comfort.
Cathie (Bazille) Simmons was born September 22, 1949 to Joseph and Annabelle (Lieffring) Bazille. She graduated from New Richmond High School in 1967.
She met the love of her life, Chuck Simmons at a family party and they were later joined in matrimony on May 12, 1969. That fall, born to them was Donna Mae, a beautiful, blonde haired, blue-eyed daughter. Since the draft was happening, Chuck enrolled in the US Airforce to serve our country and they relocated to Mountain Home, Idaho. While in Idaho, they welcomed to their little family, a son, Timothy Charles. When Chuck’s term was complete, they then returned to the Baldwin area to be near family.
Cathie lived her life as a devout Christian. She practiced and lived her faith every single day. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond, WI and participated regularly in a prayer group. She had a big heart and chose to see the best in everyone that she met along the way. While she didn’t always agree with the way others treated people, she was always the first to try to encourage people to make peace and offer forgiveness.
Family time was very important to Cathie. Despite her numerous duties, raising her family with strong core values was always number one. This dedication continued on not only from her children, but also her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. These children gave her immense joy every day. She spent a lot of time camping and fishing with her family in the northern Wisconsin areas. She made sure everyone felt welcome and ensured no one ever went away hungry. No one’s goodies were as good as mom’s (grandma’s)!
Cathie held many different occupations throughout her life. Of course, the farm work was always a priority. Chuck and Cathie not only did dairy farming and crops, but they later expanded into Red Deer and even later raised Elk. Because, well…. There was a small herd available for sale, so Why Not?! For many years, Cathie thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Elk bugling right in her own backyard while she tended to her flowers. You could also find Cathie in a variety of other roles such as: factory worker, Tupperware sales and homecare to name a few. For a time, you could even find her behind the wheel of a semi!
Cathie enjoyed traveling across the US. She had a fondness for Branson at Christmas Time to put her in the Holiday spirit and a love of the mountains out West. There was only one state that she and Chuck had not visited together! She recently even spent a week cruising the coast of Alaska and visiting various ports, enjoying the scenery, sampling the food, and watching the whales.
Cathie is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Annabelle Bazille, brothers Brian, Keith, and David Bazille. Cathie is survived by husband, Chuck Simmons; two children Donna (Ron) Kattre and Tim (Jodi) Simmons. Grandchildren Kristine (Jack), Justin (Shelby), Steven (Jordan), Tyler, Matthew, Cassidy (Adam), and Tristan (Jackie). Great Grandchildren Carson, Lyla, Paisley, Charlie, Marshall, Liam, Benson, Jackson, Jayden, and Sawyer. Sisters Judy and Diane (Larry), brothers Jerry (Marge) and Dale (Carrie), Special sister-in-law Robin, and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, April 20, 2026 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception- St. Mary’s Catholic Church (1265 Ridgeway St.) in Hammond, WI.  Visitation was Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave) in New Richmond, WI and also on Monday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church.  Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Hammond. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
