Bruce Lyle Mickelson, age 65, died Saturday May 30, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint Paul, MN. He was born the son of Oscar and Betty Mickelson on June 28, 1954 in New Richmond. Bruce grew up in New Richmond attending New Richmond High School. While growing up in New Richmond, Bruce loved hunting, fishing, and taking care of horses. At age 19, Bruce was in an accident that left him disabled and since then, has resided in a group home. Bruce was a jokester and loved making other people laugh. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles. Bruce is survived by his siblings, Larry (Laura), Julie (Heath) Carey, and Kim (Shawn) Swiggum; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. A private burial of the urn will take place in Hay River Cemetery at a later date. Cremation Services provided by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Oh Bruce, you will be missed. I have enjoyed your sense of humor for about a decade! I will miss you jokingly trying to trip me and falling for it; i will miss you yelling OUCH when I clip you nails and I look up and you are laughing; I will miss that big smile and contagious laugh and your resilience and strength. Bentley (his roommates dog) will miss sitting on your lap and lounging with you on your bed. You brought much joy to the people who came to know you!

I didn’t know Bruce for very long but he was such a sweet guy and I’m so glad to have had the chance to get to know him. We bonded over talking about tattoos. Bruce you brought a lot of joy into this world. You will be missed.
