Stephen “Steve” Burgess, born July 26, 1950, age 75, of Somerset, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2025. Steve was deeply loved by everyone who knew him and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love. He cherished his wife, Laurie, with his whole heart, and together they built a beautiful life on their farm—a place that brought him immense joy and pride, filled with horses and animals he cared for dearly. Steve had a huge love of dogs and cherished every dog and grand-dog he ever had; each one held a special place in his heart. Throughout the years, he embraced many interests, including riding Harleys, coaching his son’s sports teams, pheasant hunting, searching for and collecting agates, bird watching, and discovering a surprising talent and joy for painting with watercolor. In his free time, Steve also enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching the squirrels around the farm, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, but most of all, he treasured time spent with his family. He was known for his warm heart, wonderful sense of humor, and his genuine ability to make people feel comfortable and valued. He loved his family deeply and showed that love through his steady presence, quiet strength, and thoughtful actions. His kindness, generosity, and easy laughter touched countless lives, and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, DJ and Alma Burgess, and his sister, Rosemary.
Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Laurie; his son, Sam Burgess (Jill); his daughter, Allie Beebe (Jess); and his beloved grandchildren, Georgia, Adaleigh, and Luke, along with his two bonus grandchildren, Carter and Riley. Steve will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, and the way he made others feel valued and heard. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Memorials may be directed to the family. Cards and contributions may be sent to The Yellow Rose Farm, 352 230th Ave, Somerset, WI 54025, to help continue Steve’s impact on people’s lives.
Visitation will be on January 31, 2026 at Midcurrent Church (200 1st Street) Hudson, Wisconsin from 11:00AM – 2:00PM with a short service starting at 11:30AM.
