Audrey Mohnsen 05/29/2026

Audrey Mohnsen age 81 of New Richmond passed away on May 29th, 2026. She was born January 2nd, 1945, in Superior Wisconsin to Helge and Wilhelmina Wold. Audrey grew up in Superior, graduated from Superior Central High School, and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. In 1967 Audrey married Richard Mohnsen. In 1975 a son, Darren Mohnsen, was born. From 1967 to 1971 Richard and Audrey were an Air Force Family. Audrey taught 4th and 5th grades in St. Louis, Missouri, and 6th grade in Great Falls, Montana. In 1971 they moved to New Richmond and have resided there ever since.

Audrey substitute taught at all levels, and all subjects in the New Richmond school district for over 25 years. She received her Master’s Degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1983. Audrey also was a long-term substitute teacher in middle school math, high school English and Behind the Wheel Driver Education.

Audrey loved music. She played violin in the Superior College orchestra, sang in First Lutheran Church Choir, and took piano lessons for many years. Audrey loved to knit, maintain a flower garden, bake, and travel. Audrey and Richard vacationed across the U.S., England, Canada, and Mexico.

Audrey suffered from depression, and in the later years Alzheimer’s. Audrey was a resident of The Deerfield, an Assisted Living Facility in New Richmond for the past 13 years. The Deerfield became home to Audrey where she received kind, loving care.

Audrey is survived by husband, Richard; son, Darren; daughter-in-law, Marcie; and grandchildren, Ella and Theodore. Audrey is also survived by brothers, Hal (Susan) Wold, Norman Wold; and sister, Helen Fisketjon.

A Celebration of Life was held at First Lutheran Church (218 County Road K) in New Richmond on Monday, June 15th, 2026 at 11:00 am.  Visitation was also  held on Monday from 10:00-11 am at the church.  A luncheon will follow the service.  A private interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.  Memorials are preferred to The Deerfield or First Lutheran Church, New Richmond.

    Dear Rich and family: Hugs and Blessings of peace be with all of you. I took care of Audrey for a long time at the Deerfield, she was a joy to be with and I learned a lot my self, as Audrey was always a teacher. May God’s all encompassing love bind up your heart;
