Arvella Ellingstad 10/17/2018

Arvella Mae Ellingstad, 100, passed away October 17, 2018 at Baldwin Care Center in Baldwin, Wisconsin, where she had resided for just over one year. Arvella was born in Gilmanton, Wisconsin Nov. 27, 1917 to Gustav and Amelia (Julson) Olson. She graduated from Gilmanton High School and was united in marriage to Alvin Ellingstad in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on Jan. 9, 1942. While Alvin was serving in the Army during World War II, Arvella and son Richard took the train to California to join him there for a few months and then returned to Mondovi. After the war, the Ellingstad family lived to Mondovi where Judith was born in 1947 and lived there until 1951 when they moved to Minnesota for a half year, then to Hudson. Five years later, they bought a farm outside of Hudson where they lived for 36 years, until his passing. Shortly after, Arv moved to a home in Roberts where she was a member of the UCC church. She always loved music and enjoyed singing as she played her organ, so joining a small singing group from that church gave her and others much happiness. Her family nearby helped her through her later years celebrating special occasions and making sure she was well. Arv always chose to live a quiet life and more than anything wanted to be in her own home. She managed that very well until her last year.
Surviving are her children, Dr. Richard (Molly) Ellingstad and Judith (Michael) Riechardt. Arvella had five grandchildren, Marc, Timothy and Kari Ellingstad, and Jessalyn Devereaux and Nickolas Roseth, as well as eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Norman Olson, Gertrude Amidon, Bernice Cook, Olive Sokol, and Gladys Suess.
Funeral services were held at Good Shepard Lutheran Church (S750 County Road H, Mondovi, WI 54755) on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. Arvella was laid to rest next to her husband Alvin in Good Shepard Lutheran Cemetery in Mondovi. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Baldwin.
