Arlene M. Nelson 04/13/2015

Arlene Marie Nelson age 81 of River Falls passed away Monday, April 13, 2015 at Comforts of Home in River Falls.  She was born the daughter of Harold and Alice Graham on June 25, 1933 in Albion, PA.    Arlene was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.  She graduated in 1951 from Harbor Creek High School in Erie, PA.  On December 28, 1952, she married Howard “Howie” D. Nelson.  Arlene and Howard moved to River Falls, WI and were charter members of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in River Falls.  For 15 years, she sold Watkins products, she also drove school bus and worked in food service for UW-River Falls and River Falls School District.  Arlene proudly served as president of the River Falls American Legion Auxiliary Unit 121 and was a long time member.  She enjoyed sewing and quilting.  Arlene was devoted to her children. She took an active role in many of their extracurricular events by participating as a booster for the River Falls band, supporting 4-H and attending all sporting events.  She and Howie attended every event their 6 children participated in.  She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  Arlene is survived by her husband, Howard “Howie” Nelson, children, Jeff Nelson of River Falls, Scott Nelson of Madison, Craig (Kathy) Nelson of River Falls, Gary (Shelley) Nelson of Ladysmith, Brian (Lisa) Nelson of River Falls, and Jennifer (Greg) O’Malley of River Falls; 19 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley (Al) Deiner, Elva (Dave) Frick, and Bonita Howey.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Alice Graham; brother, Wayne Graham; sister, Janice Perdue.  A funeral service was held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 11:00 am at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church (545 Apollo Road) in River Falls.  Visitation was held Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 5-8 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in River Falls and also Friday from 10-11 am at the church.  Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: Comforts of Home in River Falls for Alzheimer’s Association Greater Wisconsin Chapter.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
