Anthony “Tony” Tamoshaitis was born on January 1, 1937 to Vytautas and Loretta Tamoshaitis in Debeikiai, Lithuania. In 1946, Tony, his mother, and siblings relocated to the United States where they were later joined by his father to settle in Brockton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1956. Shortly after graduating high school, he enlisted in the military and proudly served his country in the Army National Guard from 1956 to 1958 and the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962.
While stationed in Denver, Colorado, Tony met the love of his life, Agnes Ailts. They married on August 26, 1961 and were inseparable over their sixty-two years of marriage. Tony continued his education while in Colorado, earning a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Denver, and obtaining his Professional Engineering (PE) credentials in 1972.
Tony and Agnes relocated to New Richmond, Wisconsin in 1975, where they built their forever home. Tony worked as a mechanical engineer at Baker Hughes designing coal weigh scales for railcars. Due to his work, he was an avid traveler setting up systems globally in Asia, South America and North America. Tony had many hobbies and interests, including refurbishing vintage radios, spending time with his many beloved pets, and feeding the deer, turkeys, geese, and squirrels that showed up daily.
Tony passed away peacefully on December 14, 2023, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, at the age of 86. He is survived by his loving wife, Agnes, sister Nijola Wallent, his brother William (Kelly) Tamoshaitis, and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The visitation was held on December 29, 2023 from 3:00-4:30pm, with a service from 4:30-5:00 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave.) in New Richmond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gregory’s Gift of Hope.
