Albert Passaro 06/24/2021

Albert Michael Passaro, foodie, snappy dresser, and a tremendous pain in the neck. Regretfully passed before his beloved heirloom tomatoes were ripe.

Born in Connecticut, raised in Virginia, formerly of Oyster Bay, Albert passed away on June 24, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was 71. An Italian southern gentleman, who loved his dogs, his cigars, Negril, Steely Dan, collards, and sfogliatella.

Albert spent the years after college doing transatlantics between Amsterdam and Panama, where he befriended a young prostitute and lived at the brothel because the boat he was working on had no A/C! Those who knew and loved him will recognize this move as quintessential Albert.

Long time General Manager of the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, he was dubbed “Hurricane Albert” by his employees, for when he entered an otherwise calm room it was left in a storm of corrections.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Animal Humane Society, as Albert always liked animals best (except, perhaps, his foul-mouthed parrot, Oaxaca Willy, with whom he had a love/hate relationship for 40 years). The family would like to thank Albert’s doctors and nurses who took such great care of him.

A memorial service and burial of his urn will take place at a later date. Cremation Services provided by Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

So sorry to learn of Albert’s passing. We are among the fortunate Midwesterners who got to hear directly from Albert the stories of the transatlantic voyages, the Panama brothel, and how Oaxaca Willy learned all those foul words while living in Albert’s office at the yacht club. Albert, his infectious laughter, and the mischievous twinkle in his eyes will be missed greatly. Please accept our deepest sympathies and know that our thoughts and love are with you.
