Alan L. Krause of River Falls, WI, formerly of Hager City, WI, and Maiden Rock, WI, passed away on April 13, 2026. He was born on April 8, 1937, in Red Wing, MN, to parents Everal and Ruth Krause and was raised on a farm near Maiden Rock, WI. Following his early education at Herbert School, Alan attended Ellsworth High School where he was a stand-out football player until contracting polio at the age of sixteen. Upon graduation, Alan attended the University of River Falls where he fostered his great love of chess on the UWRF chess team, earned a teaching degree, and most importantly to him, met the woman who would become his wife of sixty-six years, Millie (Veenedall) Krause.

Alan taught biology and agriculture at Elmwood High School until 1964 when he and Millie purchased a dairy farm in Maiden Rock. The couple devoted themselves to their farm, their church, and their three children until retiring in 1991 and moving to Hager City, WI. It was in his “retirement” that Alan discovered the job that would bring him more joy than any previous occupation- driving school bus.

Besides chess, Alan loved playing cards, fishing, deer hunting, being a member of the Masons, feeding every bird in the neighborhood, and spending time with his five grandsons.

Alan is survived by his wife, Millie, his son, Kevin Krause of New Richmond, WI, his daughters, Julie (Mike) Erickson of Bay City, WI, and Linda (Matt) Foley of De Smet, SD, his grandsons, Jacob (Paige) Foley, Andrew (Shelby) Foley, Daniel (Shannon) Foley, Nathan Erickson, and Nick Erickson, and four great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don Krause.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11 am at Bethel Covenant Church County Rd KK Ellsworth, WI. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 10 – 11 am at the church. Interment will be in Heartland Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
