William Paul Langford “Bill”
Age 90, of New Richmond, WI
Bill Langford passed away peacefully at the Deerfield in New Richmond on June 1, 2025. He was born on May 12, 1935 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Augustine “Gus” and Marie (Wilson) Langford.
Bill was a talented athlete all of his life. In high school, he was a standout in football, basketball and baseball-with 2 no-hitters to his credit. In 2023, he was inducted into the St. Paul Academy/Summit School Athletics Hall of Fame. He continued to be an avid sportsman through college and the rest of his life. He was a remarkable golfer with four holes-in-one and presidencies at Town & Country Club in St. Paul and the New Richmond Golf Course. His love of skiing took him to the mountains out west countless times. Bill never said no to a game of gin rummy, cribbage or the family favorite-Scrabble. He enjoyed a weekly trip to the casino and his daily cigar until the very end.
Bill was in the bond and investment business for most of his very successful career. But he was most passionate and proud of the friends he made and kept from childhood on. As his children, we credit him with teaching us the value and importance of holding your friends close and nurturing those relationships. His frequent ski, fishing or golf trips, his extensive volunteer work, and the ORYG/GYRO social events kept him surrounded by lifelong friends. Time with family at his beloved cabin on Lake Pokegama, heading west to ski or ride horses, or winning a Scrabble game brought him the greatest joy.
Bill is survived by Anne, loving wife of 68 years; children, Susan (John Eggers) Langford, James (Erika) Langford and Stacey Langford McDonnell; grandchildren, Gus Franchere, Sevie Langford, Maggie Langford, Daniel McDonnell, Joseph McDonnell, Michael McDonnell, Elizabeth (Casey Tschumper) McDonnell; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Marie; sisters, Nancy Finsness and Elizabeth Corrigan; and son-in-law Patrick McDonnell. His amazing life will be celebrated on Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 2-5 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services 728 S Knowles Avenue New Richmond, WI. Memorials may be directed to your favorite charity in memory of Bill. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Mr. Langford was the father of my dearest friend Stacey. He had eyes that were always smiling! He welcomed me as an extra daughter from the get go. So many fond memories at their house. Mr. Langford was simply a great guy. My love and deepest sympathies to his children Jim, Sue, and Stacey. Untill we meet again. Kathleen Galvin
Sending my love and hugs from Kenya to Anne and the whole family. I will miss my meeting up with Bill on my trips to Wisconsin. I always loved our coffee visits. He was such a great friend to my Dad. They will be laughing up a storm in the beyond and fixing up everything in sight. Peace to all. Laura
I am sorry for your loss. Many good memories of shared experiences with Bill. In particular the many Twin City Bond Club outings we shared.
So many wonderful memories of our youth and as adults with this great man. Mr Langford was like a second dad growing up with Jim, and he was a man of great patience, especially with us, and love. His contagious smile and demeanor always made their home a welcoming one. I look forward to celebrating a wonderful life as well as sharing the sadness of loss with his family. Love you all.
