Virgil Dean Estes, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2019 at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center.  Virgil was born on January 6, 1930 to Jesse & Viola (Schneekloth) Estes in Jackson, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Wesley Estes, Donny Estes, Alice Gibson and Shirley Estes.  He is survived by his children Brian (Brenda) Estes, Vonette (Rick) Heibel, Monica (Kent) Eggert, Scott (Pam) Estes; sister, Norma Schmidt; grandchildren, Brad Estes, Brittany Estes, Shawn (Haley Tiberg) Proulx, Jackson Heibel, Laura Briesemeister, Elijah Eggert, Emma Eggert; great grandchildren Braelynn, Brooklynn and Harper.

Virgil was born in Jackson, Minnesota and moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa before moving to Star Prairie, Wisconsin in 1944, where his family farmed.  Virgil worked various jobs throughout his life and was also a Deputy for the St. Croix County Sheriffs Department as well as a member of the New Richmond Fire Department.  The majority of Virgil’s work life was at Utgaard’s Hatchery, for over 50 years.  From 1952 to 1954 Virgil was in the Army.  He loved to tell stories about being in the Army and stationed in Italy for 17 months.

Virgil loved to dance in his younger days and was generally the life of the party.   He enjoyed cooking, especially for the guys at “One Shot” cabin.  He also loved to play cribbage, make jokes, cheer on his favorite football team, the Packers, and drink a few Bud Lights.

Please join the family to help Celebrate the Life of Virgil on Saturday November 2, 2019 from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the CULLEN-CREA FUNERAL HOME in New Richmond, Wisconsin.  Private interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Star Prairie, Wisconsin.
