Sanford Johansen

Johansen, Sanford [Spike] Bertley November 11, 1925 – July 28, 2019, age 93, of New Richmond, WI, formerly Woodbury, MN and Luck, WI.  He died peacefully in his sleep at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, WI.

Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur William and Olga Beretta [Asper] Johansen; beloved son, Robert; and sister, LaVonne Oreat [Vonnie] Johnson; brothers-in-law, Harvey Novack and Leonard [Tubbie] Johnson; and sister-in-law, Judith [Judy] Johansen. He is survived by wife, Audrey Lorraine [Johnson]; brother, Charles [Chuck] Edmund; sister, Delores [Dode] LaMay Novack; and daughters, Susan [Carol] Johansen, Patti Johansen, Kay [PJ] Forsythe, Linda [Chuckie Jr] Nutzmann; nine grandchildren, Paul [Jeanne] Halliwill, Keith [Ashley] Lepinski, Carrie [Kenny] Jordan, Thomas [Rachel] Forsythe, Steven [Sarah] Forsythe, Kaity [Dan] Tobritzhofer, Tracy [Chad] DeWitt, Nikki [Zach] Cramer, and Jonathon Nutzmann; eight great-grandchildren, Trevor and Dylan Halliwill, Sophie Lepinski, Hunter Tobritzhofer, Killian Forsythe, and Cidney, Christian and Chayce DeWitt. Also numerous nieces and nephews including his god-daughters, Tanya Geisler, Carrie Gerths, and Kelly Nelson.

Spike enlisted in the Army in March 1944 as a member of Company “K” 395th Infantry 99th Division. He fought in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Discharged in May of 1946 as a Corporal, earning the Distinguished Unit Badge, Army of Occupation-Germany, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. He was a member of American Legion Butler-Harmon Post 80, New Richmond WI.

Visitation 1-4 PM on Friday August 16, 2019 at the Cullen Crea Funeral Home with a prayer service at 2:30 PM.
