Ruth Charlotte Schillinger, age 91, of New Richmond, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, at Hammond Health Care Center. She was born on January 6, 1934, in Plum City, Wisconsin, where she grew up in a large, loving family surrounded by siblings who cherished her deeply.
In 1952, Ruth married William F. Schillinger, and together they built a home in New Richmond. Throughout her life, Ruth dedicated herself to caring for others, working as a Nurses Aid at Westfields Hospital. Her gentle spirit and compassionate heart extended beyond her profession; she was often seen helping people with grocery shopping or offering rides as she ran her own taxi service, always lending a helping hand wherever needed.
Ruth found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including bird watching and caring for her beloved cats and all animals. Her cheerful disposition and generous nature touched the lives of many, including her dear friend, the late Alice Ramquist.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Gottfried and Alpha Sobottke; her husband, William Schillinger, Sr.; her daughters, Robin, Beth, and Lisa; her grandson, Anthony; and many cherished siblings. She leaves behind a loving family, including her daughters, Roxanne (John) Butler of Sequim, WA, and Faith (Dale) Nelson of Stillwater, MN; her son, William F. Schillinger, Jr. of Glenwood City, WI; her sister, Barbara Sobottke; as well as numerous grandchildren—Sara, Crystal, Lisa, Seville, and Kayden—and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory in their hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate Ruth’s life was held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 728 S. Knowles Ave in New Richmond. The service was livestreamed via the link below. Visitation took place one hour prior to the service, allowing friends and family to gather and share cherished memories. A luncheon followed the service, continuing the spirit of community and love that Ruth embodied. Ruth was interred at Oakwood Cemetery in Hersey, WI, where her spirit will rest among those she loved.
Ruth Charlotte Schillinger will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, warmth, and the profound impact she had on the lives of all who knew her.

Ruth was always so helpful & gave many rides to people to & from Appointments. Always had time for a quick chat! Rest in Peace Ruth 🙏
I worked with Ruth at Holy Family Hospital for years. I remember her as so very hard working and always so very kind. Not too many people left in this world as wonderful and caring as Ruth.
Ruth was a good friend indeed to our mother Alyce. I hope they are enjoying a cup of coffee together. My condolences to the family.
Ruth was a longtime friend to Mom. Even when Mom had lung cancer, Ruth said to just call if she needed anything. I greatly appreciated her care and concern. She will be remembered for that.
Faith sorry for the loss of your mom.. she always had a smile …Sue Kruschke Gillis 74
I grew up across the street from you all with all the kids on W. Lincoln! I really got to know your mom when I was in high school and worked as an aide at the hospital. She worked so hard but we all still had a good time and she taught me a lot by example. I ran into her occasionally after that and I know she continued to work hard helping others! I know she touched so many lives, making life easier for many. You have my sympathy in this loss.🙏
My mother-in-law and one of the strongest women I have ever known. My love and prayers always to Faith, Roxanne, and the rest of the family.
My family is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ruth Schillinger, whom we knew throughout our entire time in New Richmond. My maternal grandmother, Emma Enser, always referred to Ruth as her best friend. My grandmother lived in New Richmond until she passed away in 2009 at age 97, from Alzheimer’s Disease. Ruth was my grandmother’s primary caregiver from the time the rest of my family moved to Minnesota until her death. My mother was legal next of kin, but we all agreed that Ruth should be my grandmother’s primary caregiver since she still lived in New Richmond, and we had moved more than 150 miles away.
