He was born on March 18, 1959, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, a son of Donald and Marion Henke. Following high school, Russ served his country in the United States Navy, during his time in the service he met the love of his life, Conchi, together they were married on February 24, 1979, in El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain. He served 21 years in the Navy until his retirement, following his retirement from the service, he spent the next 20 years as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He was a very hard worker and loved his time delivering the mail. He carried dog biscuits to give to the neighbor’s dogs while he was delivering. Russ never took life for granted, he was always very purposeful in living in the moment and not rushing things. He was a man of his word and would do anything for anybody in need, very laid-back, kind and caring, he would never have a bad word to say about anyone. He loved people, you always catch him being the first to arrive and the last to leave, if there was someone around to talk to, Russ would be there talking with them. He was very generous and giving, he donated to numerous charities and organizations through the years, he was also a huge contributor to the American Red Cross in giving blood and Platelets. He started donating in 1975, he would donate as often as he could, knowing that it may go to someone who may need it. He loved Jesus, his family, fishing, hunting, football, gardening, spending time at the family cabin, his house in Spain, and his Spanish family.
