Richard William Emeott, age 81, of New Richmond, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Talamore Senior Living in Woodbury, Minnesota.
Born on September 22, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota, Richard was the third of eight children of Marion and Loretta (Becker) Emeott. He graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul in 1962 and went on to complete a 2-year welding program at St. Paul Vocational Institute. In 1964, he entered the United States Navy, training at the Naval Air Station in Memphis, Tennessee. Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserve until 1970, when he was honorably discharged as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Petty Officer 2nd Class (AMH2).
Public service was important to Richard. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he served his communities as a volunteer on the Oakdale (East County Line) and Mahtomedi, Minnesota, fire departments. Most of Richard’s working career was at The Gillette Company in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he worked as a machinist. Richard was known for his dedication, work ethic, and dependability. He took great pride in never once taking a sick day. He retired in 1998 after a successful career.
Richard met the love of his life, Barbara, while working at The Gillette Company in the late 1970s. The two shared a deep and enduring bond, marrying at their home in Hudson, Wisconsin, on New Year’s Eve in 1988. In 1999, they made New Richmond, Wisconsin, their home. In 2023, they moved to Woodland Hill Senior Living in Hudson, Wisconsin, and then to Talamore Senior Living in Woodbury, Minnesota.
Retirement brought a season of adventure and joy for Richard and Barbara. Together, they were able to travel extensively, exploring places like Hawaii, Europe, Central America, Australia, and China. They also enjoyed camping in tents, trailers, and later in their motor coach. From the late 1990s until 2020, they wintered in Brownsville, Texas. In the early years, they stayed in their motor coach at Winter Haven Resort before purchasing a home in the River Bend Resort golf course community. Richard enjoyed golfing several times a week while retired.
A lifelong aviation enthusiast, Richard earned his private pilot certificate in 1980. He owned a hangar at the New Richmond, Wisconsin, airport where he stored his various airplanes and spent countless hours working on projects and socializing with friends who had similar interests. During his winters in Texas, he was a member and volunteered with the Commemorative Air Force, helping preserve and honor the history of military aviation. Richard also enjoyed automobiles, especially the older classics. He owned a 1958 Corvette that he proudly exhibited at numerous car shows, garnering admiration and awards for its pristine condition.
Above all, Richard will be remembered for his love of family. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren, sharing his passions for cars and aviation, and encouraging their curiosity about the world. His warmth, humor, and joy for life will live on in all who were blessed to know him. Richard’s love for his wife Barbara was steadfast and tender, and after over four decades together, they remained inseparable in both spirit and heart. When Barbara passed away in late September, it was as though a part of Richard went with her. Just a mere 18 days later, he followed her home, their love story continuing beyond this life.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Loretta Emeott; his wife, Barbara Jean Klein-Emeott; and his siblings, Marvin and Peter Emeott.
