Ray Nutzmann

In Loving Memory of Raymond Michael Nutzmann. Ray Nutzmann, age 89 of New Richmond, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on December 12, 2023, at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond surrounded by family.

He was born on December 7, 1934. Ray was the middle child of John and Eleanore Nutzmann’s three sons, Donald (Mary Kay) and Charles (Jackie). He was born in West St. Paul, MN and grew up in Mendota Heights, graduating from Rosemount High School. As a teenager, Ray worked on the family farm and family café on Payne Ave in St. Paul. Later Ray followed his family to Huntingdon, WI where his parents owned Little Johnnies Tavern. Ray was a bartender there when he met his bride-to-be, Beverly. Ray married Bev on February 13, 1960. In 1962, they bought a basement-only home and built the rest of the home in 1964 where they lived until 2014. He spent his final few years in an independent living apartment at The Deerfield. They were blessed with four children, Sheila, Sandy, Steve, and Sonja.

Ray dedicated 32 years as a volunteer fireman for New Richmond Fire Department and served as Fire Chief in 1996-1997. He also worked at Doboy Packaging from 1966 until his well-earned retirement in 1997. Ray and Bev embraced retirement, spending winters in Alamo, TX and enjoying summer escapes in Washburn, WI. He also enjoyed delivering cars for Bernard’s dealership after retiring.

Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Ludwitzke; parents, John and Eleanore Nutzmann; and brothers, Don and Chuck Nutzmann.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Beverly; children, Sheila (Steve) Finseth, Steve (Debbie) Nutzmann, and Sonja (Brian) Wieber; grandchildren, Stephanie (Erik) Tulgren, Holly (Thomas) Simons, David (Alex) Finseth, Katie (Cory) Nutzmann, Olivia (Joshua) Long, Mackinzie (Megan) Nutzmann, Eliza (Cody) Nutzmann, Ryan (Allison) Ludwitzke, Ashley (Jeremy) Persells; and, great grandchildren, Jack & Will Tulgren, Maxwell, Isaac & Jacob Persells, Zoey & Madelyn Simons, Teddy Long; and son-in-law, Bruce Ludwitzke; and sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and close friends.
