Peter J. Gilligan age 93 of Edina, died peacefully January 10, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years Dorothea, son Stephen, parents Jeremiah Joseph and Rose, sister Mary Rita Petka and brother Francis. Survived by his children, Thomas (Linda), Jerome (Patricia), Michael (Lynn), Mary (Stephen) Gilligan-O’Rourke, Ann, John (Porfirio Diz), Margaret (Steven), Joseph (Byoung) Lee-Gilligan and Martha (William) Gilligan-Gaines, sister Margaret and 27 grandchildren. Pete was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and graduated from Mount Carmel High School, Benedictine College (Atchison, Kansas) and DePaul University College of Law. Pete was a partner in the Minneapolis office of Arthur Andersen & Company until 1970 when he became the Chief Financial Officer of West Publishing Company from which he retired in 1993. He was a wonderful husband, brother, father and grandfather, and was devoted to his family and Catholic faith. Pete gave generously of his time and skills to many community organizations and served on many boards including Church of Christ the King, Carondelet Catholic School, Benilde-St. Margaret’s School, Friends of St. Stephen’s and St. Mary’s Rehabilitation Center. He was an avid golfer and sports fan and loved to read and travel. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, January 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Church of Christ the King, 5029 Zenith Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55410 with visitation 2 hours prior to the Mass. Private interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Church of Christ the King, Hope Community, 611 Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404, or charity of donor’s choice.
