Marguerite “Peg” A. Hodel, age 76, passed away at home on Monday, July 28th, 2025.
Peg was born on January 19, 1949, to Paul & Mona (McNamee) Barkley in St. Annes’s Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. She was the second child born to them, four more would follow. She grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, went to St. Eugene’s parish school, and then Mother Theodore Guerin High School in River Grove, Illinois, graduating in 1967. Shortly thereafter she began working for ARINC in Elk Grove Village, Illinois and met her future husband Richard Hodel when he began working there in January 1968. They were married on April 12, 1969, at St. Eugene’s, her home parish ~~ and they lived in Des Plaines, Illinois for 3 ½ years before moving up to Star Prairie, Wisconsin in 1972.
They both fell in love with the area and happily lived out in the countryside for over 53 years, enjoying the quiet life Wisconsin offered, and all the happy times when their families and friends came to visit. Life was good, and she & Rich were blessed in so many ways ~~ mainly in finding each other.
Peg retired from the School District of New Richmond in 2008, after working 32 years there, and making many friends. She thoroughly enjoyed retirement and making her own agenda every day.
She leaves behind her husband Rich “Doc”; her 5 siblings, Maureen (Normand) Pollitt, Marie Schmidt, Jim & Vicki Barkley, Pat & Gayle Barkley, and Donald & Karen Barkley; Rich’s siblings, LeRoy Hodel, Judy & John Nelson, Linda & Robert Churchill and Larry Hodel; and many nieces & nephews and even many more great nieces and nephews, as the family continues to grow. Gone before her are her parents, Paul & Mona Barkley; Rich’s parents, Hannah & Wilbert Hodel; sister-in-law, Joan Hodel; nephews, Steve Hodel and Gabriel Joseph Schmidt; niece, Christine Moyer; and beloved friends, Pete, Stella & Effie Tobiassen and Mary Hansen.
A special “thank you” to Dr. Peter Hurley, and the excellent nurses/staff at Amery Cancer & Infusion Center. They made a difficult time as easy as they could, and their comfort and caring were much appreciated.
“Life has to end, but love doesn’t”.
