Mabel (May) Louise Scott Ross
November 22nd, 1938 was a brisk day in Hannibal, Missouri, Ellsworth and Louise Scott would not feel the bite of the winter chill as on this day, the arrival of Mabel Louise would bring a lasting warmth and joy. Brother Charles would make the family complete.
The family eventually moved to Bradley Beach, New Jersey and May discovered love at first sight; sandy beaches, blue water and the joy of swimming would become a lifelong obsession.
Leaving Bradley Beach, May attended The American University in Washington DC graduating with degrees in Education.
May married and began to raise her family, Lori, Amy, Nancee and Jamie. Although all of May’s daughters were very gifted; it would be Jaime who would bring May to her calling.
Teaching for May was so much more than books: May’s students experienced wilderness camping, fishing, hiking, art, music, literature, every animal May could locate and of course swimming. May’s students, although faced with challenges, were exceptional, because May advocated for them to have the opportunities to be exceptional.
With a disarming smile, infectious laughter and a wit that could break any poker face, it was difficult not to smile when May was in the room.
May loved to travel and explore. Africa, Alaska, Costa Rica, and many other destinations, but Hawaii was always in Mays heart, along with Hershey bars and Magnum. Of all May’s loves, the greatest was for her four daughters, four granddaughters, two great grandsons and close friends.
May’s life was filled with dedication, commitment, laughter and joy. May found wonder in everything and every simple pleasure was an event. May met every challenge with a determination unmatched and an abundance of love to be shared.
On April 15, 2025, in her home surrounded by love, May peacefully joined her parents, and brother in eternal grace.
Great appreciation and gratitude are extended to Lake View Hospice for providing unsurpassed comfort and care and to the friends and neighbors who have been such an important a part of May’s journey.
