Jerry Solum 06/29/2025

Jerry Solum 06/29/2025

Jerome “Jerry” R. Solum, age 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of June 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. True to their lifelong bond, his beloved wife and soulmate of 52 years, Jeannie, was by his side until the very end.
Jerry’s life was one filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to family. He leaves behind his children, Chantel (Ron) Mitchell and Zachary (Katelyn) Solum, who carry forward his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering loyalty. His five grandsons—Matthew, Aiden, Isaac, Lander, and Silvan—were the lights of his life, each one holding a special place in his heart. Nothing topped being Grandpa for Jerry. Watching them grow, sharing his passions with them, made each day a gift. The hugs, kisses, and giggles he enjoyed with “his boys” made his life complete.  He also leaves behind his birth daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Seefeldt, their four children, and their grandson, whose presence in his life was a profound and cherished gift.
Jerry is also survived by his siblings, John Solum, Georgianne (Cleve) Aldous, Sally (Kevin) Thoen, Peter (Becky) Solum, David (Merida) Solum, and Philip (Cora) Solum, his sister-in law, Linda Solum, brother-in-law, Larry Bakke, and a large, close-knit circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends—many of whom considered Jerry their rock and their favorite storyteller.
A lifelong resident of River Falls, Jerry was born on April 26, 1951, to Jerome and Gloe Ann Solum. After graduating from River Falls High School in 1969, he served honorably at Fort Lewis, WA during the Vietnam War. He later spent 35 dedicated years working for 3M before retiring.
Jerry loved the outdoors and could often be found hunting, fishing, boating, or riding his motorcycle. He especially loved his time “Up North” with family. In retirement, he traveled the world with Jeannie—collecting memories, souvenirs, and sunsets.
Jerry had a rare gift for bringing people together. Whether through a mischievous joke, a perfectly timed story, or a quiet act of kindness, he made others feel seen, supported, and loved. He was the one who showed up – offering help, encouragement, or just a good laugh when it was needed most. His compassion wasn’t loud, but it was steadfast.
Jerry lived fully. He loved deeply. And he will be missed endlessly.
Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents, Jerome and Gloe Ann, his in-laws, Amos and Marcella Bakke, his brother, Tom Solum, his sister-in-law Rita Bakke, his niece, Lisa Bakke and other beloved family members and friends.
A Celebration of Jerry’s Life was held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11 am at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, 202 S Second Street River Falls, WI. Visitation was on Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 4-7 pm and on Friday from 10-11 am at Ezekiel Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
