James Roe 11/02/2024

James B. (JB) Roe, age 89, of Star Prairie, WI passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond, WI.  James was born July 4, 1935, the eldest son to James A. and Violet (Lowry) Roe in Marshalltown, IA.  He graduated from New Richmond High School in 1953 and went on to serve his country in the US Marines for three years during the Korean War.  On July 18, 1959, he married Marlene Orf at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.  James went on to work as a police officer with the city of New Richmond and then onto a highway patrol officer with St. Croix County.  James was a gifted woodworker and carpenter. He was very interested in genealogy and his family history.  He enjoyed trips up north and fishing as well as cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.  His family remembers him as a great storyteller.  James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marlene; children, Lori (Bill) Vedders, Suzanne Roe, and Michael Roe; grandchildren, Whitney Roe, Jacob Knutson, Rebekah (Scott) Armitage, Alexa (Leroy) Serrano, Jon Roe; great grandchildren, Charlie Armitage, Lincoln Serrano and Estella Serrano; siblings, Larry (Janice) Roe, Ronnie (Mary) Roe, Pat Meggitt, Sandra Janiszeski, David Roe; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and cherished friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Violet Roe; son, Thomas Roe; grandson, Jordan Knutson; brother-in-law, Art Meggitt; and sister-in-law, Roxanne Roe.  A memorial service was held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:30 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (365 West River Drive) in New Richmond.  Visitation was held on Thursday from 10:00-11:30 am at the church. Military honors were performed by the New Richmond VFW Post #10818.  Interment is in the New Richmond Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
