Helen Gleason

Helen May Gleason (Schlough) passed away on December 14th at the age of 94. Helen was born in Wheeler, WI on May 12, 1924 to Wilhelm and Mary Schlough. Helen was the youngest of the family with eleven older siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irven; son, Louis; and all of her siblings, including in-laws. Helen is survived by children, Harvey (Virginia) and Rose Lundell; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Helen and Irven were married on March 20, 1946. Shortly after that, they built a house and also built the Laurel Restaurant, which they and the Gleason family ran for a number of years. The restaurant was sold in 1952 and Gleason Road Construction was formed. Helen did the accounting for 35 years. During those years she enjoyed raising their children, gardening, canning, sewing, reading, cooking, making lots of sweet things and loved being outside mowing the lawn.

As the years went by, he goal was to get her High School GED. She took classes at WITC and graduated on her birthday at the age of 75, a very proud moment. Helen loved her family and the Catholic faith. The family attended St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Stanton until it closed in 2002, then attending the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Richmond. She was an active member of the Altar Society. Because of her strong faith, she was blessed to go on a trip to Portugal, Spain. During her trip, she visited Our Lady of Fatima and the Lourdes, an incredible religious experience for her.

The last eight years were spent at Deerfield Gables because of a stroke. She was well cared for by the staff and always felt very comfortable.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday December 18, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 151 S. Washington Ave, New Richmond, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to Mass at the Church, interment at St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery.
