George William Schmit passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 25, 2015 at Arthur-Rose Care Center in New Richmond, Wisconsin. George was born on April 2, 1936 to Edwin and Eva (Domke) Schmit in New Richmond. He was the youngest son of six children. He worked at St. Croix Press Inc. in New Richmond for thirty-four years, was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and the National Guard and Army Reserve. George was a farmer his whole life, from growing up on his childhood farm to continuing his love of the land and animals with his small family farm in Erin Prairie Township. George married the love of his life, Betty Lou Thompson, on March 2nd, 1957 and together they raised seven children. George was a committed family man, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He adored watching his grandchildren in their many activities. He shared with his family his love of sports, the Brewers and the Packers, horses, country music, fishing, hunting, a good game of euchre, snowmobiling, camping and traveling with his wife Betty in their retirement. George was a man of deep and enduring faith in God and his actions reflected his strong Christian values. George was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers; Marvin, Lloyd, Emmett, and Thomas Schmit. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Lou (Thompson); children: Kevin (Jackie) Schmit, Daniel (Mary McGurran) Schmit, Marvin (Sue) Schmit, Gary (Heidi) Schmit, Sheryl (Michael) King, Todd (Elad Tako) Schmit, Troy (Terri) Schmit; sister, Helen Demulling; sister-in-law, Dorreen Schmit; sixteen grandchildren: Casey Rondeau, Brandy Brabec, Joe Schmit, Sarah Ninas, Jennifer Brost, Isaac McGurran-Hanson, Gabrielle McGurran-Hanson, Noah McGurran-Hanson, Michael Schmit, Makayla Schmit, Chulsea Schmit, Wylee Schmit, Haley King, Jaime King, Eve Schmit, Kyle Schmit; and seven great-grandchildren: Justice Rondeau, Salem Rondeau, Genaveve Brabec, Dominick Brabec, Graham Brost, Harper Brost, and Louisa Ninas. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the CULLEN CREA FUNERAL HOME in New Richmond, Wisconsin and also one hour prior to Mass at the Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 29th, 2015 at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Memorials preferred.
