On Monday February 24th, 2020, Dr. Carl H. Tubbs passed away at the age of 88. Carl was born on February 23, 1932 in Adrian, Michigan to Carl Nelson and Mildred Grophear Tubbs. He received his bachelors in biology and masters in economics degrees from Michigan State University, and a PhD in ecological physiology from the University of Michigan. He was a research scientist with the US Forest Service/ USDA. On June 21, 1957 he married Joan Corbett Tubbs. They raised three children, Laura, Andrew and Peter.
Carl was a true renaissance man. He was an avid outdoorsman, shot skeet and trap, hunted, fished, golfed and cross country skied. Upon retirement he went back to school to study drawing and painting as well as studying the French language. He loved all the arts including classical music, dance and drama. But his greatest love was his family and his greatest passion was his wife. Each night before going to sleep you could her say: “ I love you” and he would respond: “ I’m crazy about ya kid!”; 62 years and the love never waivered.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter, Mary Alice and his son in law, Douglas Booth. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Laura Tubbs Booth, Carl Andrew Tubbs, Peter Tubbs (Judy) and 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in the spring at a date to be announced later.
