Douglas Gene Howard, age 79, of Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. He was born on December 24, 1945 to Roger and Vivian Howard in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
Doug spent decades in telecommunications working as a manager and translations engineer for phone companies including Wisconsin Bell and Integra.
After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard aircraft carriers all over the world.
Doug grew up along the Baraboo River with his three brothers and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing trips to Canada and staring up at the stars.
He was an avid sports fan and rarely missed the Packers, Badgers, Wildcats or college basketball games.
Doug attended First Covenant Church in River Falls, Wisconsin where he served as the congregation’s song leader for years.
He loved music, movies and rewatching his favorite TV shows.
From lifeguard to soccer coach, Doug held many titles over the years, but none mattered more to him than father and grandfather.
Doug deeply loved his children and grandchildren and always made sure they knew it. He called his children’s births the three best days of his life.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Ron Howard.
He is survived by his daughters Lisa (Nate) Stellrecht and Kim (Scott Helterbrand) Nesbitt, his son Scott Howard, and his grandchildren: Riley, Nolan, Abby, Austin, Addison and Colton. Doug is also survived by his brothers Sam (Mary) and Lanny (Sharon) Howard along with many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial will be held in his honor.
