Doris Nelson 06/05/2024

Doris Mae Nelson of New Richmond was born in Cumberland, Wisconsin to Fern and William Donaghue Sr. on December 4, 1936.

She married Albert Nelson on February 22, 1957, and happily raised four children. Doris is one of the original Northsiders having lived in her home for 67 years and where she was able to be when she peacefully passed away on June 5, 2024.  After her husband Albert died, she enjoyed working for a temp service where she took up bowling and golfing with her co-workers.  Doris loved animals and was never without a pet, whether it was a cat or dog or both. She also loved crafting, playing cards, Christmas, singing along to country music and the coffee pot was always on.  Doris was infamous for making baked beans, tuna salad, homemade doughnuts, and many different Christmas goodies.

Whenever you see the color red, think of Doris and her patio of red and white furniture, flowerpots, umbrellas, lawn ornaments and anything else she could paint red. She would sit outside for hours admiring her little paradise of red.

Doris would want everyone to know, “I’m fine!”

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Nelson; parents, Fern Luty and William Donaghue Sr.; siblings, William Donaghue Jr., Lillian (Donaghue) Barnier, Joseph Donaghue, Lawrence Donaghue and twin-sister, Delores (Donaghue) Ammann; daughter, Julie (Nelson) Brusletten and infant sons, Paul David Nelson and David Lee Nelson.

She is survived by her children, Betty Nelson, Linda (Steve) Peterson and Rick (Kris) Nelson; grandchildren, Heidi (Robert) Jackson, Matthew (Amy Kahler) Drolson, John (Melissa) Peterson, Stacey (Frank) Chase, Steve Peterson, Nate (Brett) Nelson, Kate (Miah) Brodie, Michael (Jocelyn Senrick) Brusletten, and Becky (Chris) Rousar; great-grandchildren, Brandon & Connor Keshvari, Dom (Bailey) Peterson, Jordan (Oudom) Kour, Tyler Peterson, Henry and Georgia Chase, Ethan and Avery Nelson, Sydney, Kamryn and Lola Brodie, Braidyn and Ashtyn Brusletten, Millie Rousar.; 1 great-great grandchild, Knox Peterson;  step-father, Kenneth Luty; sisters-in-law, Arlys Donaghue, Elsie Hendrickson and Marie Bahn; son-in-law, Gerry Brusletten; and many nieces and nephews and her dog and faithful companion, Lucy.

Special thanks to Lakeview Homecare and Hospice and Bakken-Young Funeral Home for their exemplary care and compassion.

A celebration of Doris’ life was planned for Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2:00-4:00PM at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave) New Richmond, Wisconsin.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral &  Cremation Services.

I remember Doris well. I think the 1st cup of coffee I ever had was at the Nelson kitchen table, I was probably 12! Condolences to the family.

Another “Northsider” sending sympathy. Doris was a lovely lady and was a great friend of my mother Irene. She will be missed.

So sorry for your family’s loss. I’ve been a neighbor of Doris for 13yrs and she was always so nice and friendly. She had beautiful flowers and she adored her sweet Lucy. I remember she had a cat too that liked to lay out in the driveway. Doris loved being outside too sitting on her red patio set. My condolences to all her family and friends.

Having lived next door to Doris and her family for 19 years in the 80’s and 90’s her and her family were the nicest neighbors one could ask for. Sorry to hear about her passing and the best to her family.
