Erin Prairie, Wisconsin
Donald Dennis “Bill” Maloney of New Richmond, Wisconsin died on September 7, 2016 with his beloved family by his side. Born in Minneapolis on September 10, 1926 to Thomas and Marcella (Downey) Maloney, Bill grew up in Lake City and on the Iron Range. After graduating from Keewatin High School, he enlisted in the Army, serving as an MP in WWII. Following the war, he attended a business college in Duluth. Degree in hand, he moved to Minneapolis in 1948 and went to work for Warner Hardware. He and Marguerite Donahue were joined in marriage in 1950. They began raising their family of ten children in Richfield and then moved to North St. Paul. Over the years Bill worked for Cleveland Cotton Products and Atlanta Stove Works before starting Maloney Marketing. In 1977, the family moved to a 160-acre hobby farm in Erin Prairie, Wisconsin surrounded by birds, animals and bountiful flower & vegetable gardens.
A proud Irishman and devout Catholic member of St. Pat’s, he mapped out the gravesites and recorded the history of the cemetery. Bill possessed a quick wit, ready laugh, and contagious smile to the end. He is predeceased by four siblings and survived by one brother, Larry. Bill is also survived by Marguerite-his devoted wife, partner, and friend of 66 years, and their ten children: Mary (Mike) Miller, John (Nancy), Rita (Mark) Kearns, Joan (KO) Paulson, Nancy (Marc) Williams, Barbara (Darren) Utech, Patrick (Denise), Ann Hinz, Michael (Michelle), and Thomas.
Bill was the proud grandfather of 28, great-grandfather to ten and family patriarch to all. We will miss him deeply but are strengthened by the joy this man brought to all of our lives. Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Erin Prairie, Wisconsin with visitation from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 9, and 10-11 a.m., Saturday, September 10, followed by funeral mass at 11 a.m.
