Denton Scott Pomahatch, age 62 of Coon Rapids, MN died on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. He was born on April 7, 1963, in Hallock, Minnesota, to Stephen and SuzAnne Pomahatch. Denton spent most of his childhood in Mounds View, Minnesota. He developed a love for hockey at an early age, participating for many years as a goalie. He attended Irondale High School and later graduated from Pepin High School with the Class of 1981.
After high school, Denton proudly served his country in the United State Army. While serving in Germany, Denton was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Though his life changed in that moment, his spirit, humor, and interests never did. He eventually made his home in Coon Rapids, Minnesota with his wife, Gabrielle.
Denton was known for his deep love of music, sports, and collecting. He especially enjoyed gathering hockey memorabilia, Rolling Stones items, and anything connected to his favorite teams—the Minnesota Wild, Twins, and Vikings. Concerts were one of his greatest joys, and he treasured the many opportunities he had to meet his favorite performers. Denton also loved spending time playing trivia at Boston’s near his home.
Generous at heart, Denton quietly supported causes close to him, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Feed My Starving Children, and Disabled American Veterans. Those who knew him best remember his kindness, loyalty, and the genuine way he showed up for the people he cared about.
He is preceded in death by his mother, SuzAnne Nelson; brother, Ryan Pomahatch; and former wife, Gabrielle Pomahatch. Denton is survived by his father, Stephen (Annette) Pomahatch; step-father, Marty Nelson; sisters, Denise (Chris) Schmidt and Nicole (Mike) Rundquist; nieces and nephews, Jason Linder, Leah Linder, Mick Linder, Noah Pomahatch, Brandon Rundquist, Madasyn Rundquist; great-nephews, Jase and Ryker; and many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends who will miss him deeply.
A Celebration of Denton’s Life was held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2 pm at Sabylund Lutheran Church W11137 CTH-J, Pepin, WI 54769. Visitation was also on Saturday from 12 – 2 pm at the church. Interment will be in the Sabylund Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.

Keep on rocking you legend. Stand down now soldier. RIP brother. Craig
My heart goes out to you all as you grieve Denton. He was a sweetheart! I’m glad I visited him on the unit this last year when he was at the VA. Rest in heaven my friend. Your presence will be greatly missed.
I’m so sorry to hear about Denton. He was always a pleasure to work with and we spent many an hour watching his DVDs at work.
I worked with Denton at the VA Hospital when I was a Nursing Assistant. We bonded instantly over Seinfeld, and I would hang out with him, work with him while we watched it. It was great. Even after he was discharged, he would stop in to say hi every once and awhile, we kept in touch with Facebook. I loved seeing his exciting adventures meeting some of the GREATEST musicians I have seen over the years. I know Denton lived a full life. He often spoke fondly of his beloved wife Gabby, who had already passed, and I hope he reunites with her again. Rest in Peace Dear Denton and enjoy the concert up there. Thanks for you Service!
I remember caring for Denton years ago when he was at the VA hospital. He always had a positive attitude and was a favorite patient to take care of. I remember his great stories about his adventures following the Stones around. Sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.
Denton was a kind soul with a huge heart. His smile could light up a room, and his compassion was a lesson in how we could all live a better life. I will miss him tremendously but always think of him fondly.
My deepest condolences to Denton’s family. He was a kind and generous man. I enjoyed many conversations with him. He was always positive and passionate about life, May he now rest with his beloved wife.
I served with Denton(Hatch) in Germany. We became life long friends staying in touch through FB and texting. We always talked about a military reunion, but never pulled it off. God Bless you Denton, you will always be a brother to me! RIP my friend
I met Denton on a Rolling Stones fan board over 20 years ago. We hit it off right away. Despite the fact that he lived in Minnesota and I lived in New York, we became friends online. We would often chat online about music and life. We exchanged music, joked around and occasionally chatted on the phone too. It was great to finally meet him in Philadelphia at a Stones concert back in 2013.
We had a great long phone conversation not long before he passed. We spoke about lots of things including growing up, family, faith and as always, he spoke about his beloved Gabrielle. He mentioned having some health issues but I certainly did not expect him to pass.
In my mind, I picture Denton walking through the Gates of Heaven, seeing the Lord and all of his family and loved ones who passed before him. And then he sees Gabriele and is reunited with the love of his life.
God bless you and may you rest in peace my friend. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
