
Dean Gerald Hansen passed away on August 30, 2020 at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond with his son present. He was born to Maynard and Alice (Borgen) Hansen on June 23, 1938 in Spring Valley, Wisconsin. He was Raised in and around the New Richmond area, and graduated from New Richmond High School. Dean, his dad, brother, and cousins grew up fixing cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles. They hot rodded around and enjoyed racing them at the tracks together. He was in the Army and served in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. Dean married Mary Ann McAndrew at St. Patrick’s on September 4, 1965. To this marriage, two children were born, Julie Ann and Kevin.
Dean and Mary built a life at their home on Cedar Lake with their two children where he resided for 55 years before his passing. Dean worked at Gypsum early on and then worked for Doboy in New Richmond, retiring there. He then became a master level fixer, tinkerer, putterer, and pontoon captain. He loved to hunt and fish, he, his dad, and Kevin did this together for many years. He and Mary also enjoyed flea marketing and collecting, going to lots of shows to look around. Dean also enjoyed helping with his mom’s and also his father-in-law’s gardens, especially enjoying the little red potatoes.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; daughter, Julie; parents; infant sister, Shirley; in-laws, Allen and Annie McAndrew; niece, Gail Dorsey; brothers-in-law, Tom Dorsey, John Edward McAndrew, and James McAndrew.
Dean leaves behind his son, Kevin; brother, Dale (Harriet); sister, Bev Dorsey and her children, James (Angela) Dorsey, Gary Dorsey, Lisa Weiske (Mike), and Ann Ley (Rod); brother-in-law Tom (Karen) McAndrew and their children, Tim McAndrew, Kelly, McAndrew, and Genne (Fred) Fritts; and many friends.
The family will gather at 10:30 AM on Friday September 4, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Erin Prairie, Wisconsin. Graveside service will begin at 11 AM, military honors provide by American Legion Butler-Harmon post 80 of New Richmond.
