Darrell Folie 06/21/2024

Darrell S. Folie, age 80, died Friday, June 21 surrounded by family at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN. He was born August 24, 1943, to Sherman and Ada Folie in Freeborn County, MN. Darrell was raised in Clarks Grove, MN and graduated from Albert Lea High School. He then went onto Austin Junior College before completing a finance degree from Mankato State. In 1966 Darrell joined the Minnesota National Guard and started his career as an internal auditor with 3M. He remained with 3M in various financial positions for 35 years until his retirement.
In 1972, Darrell met Cynthia Hartman of Costa Mesa, CA. They united in marriage on Dec. 8, 1973, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN. They lived in Stillwater, MN where they welcomed two children, Darrin and Deana. They moved to Wisconsin a few years later so Darrell could farm.
Once retired, Darrell started restoring Oliver tractors, which were the tractors his father farmed with. The hobby grew into a second career and along with his son Darrin, additional Oliver and Cockshutt tractors were collected and painstakingly restored. The restored tractors have been featured in numerous magazines and calendars. Darrell was a member of both Northland Oliver and Go-pher Cockshutt clubs.
Darrell’s greatest joy was his raising his children, helping them to grow and become independent. He was their ready resource for all things electrical, plumbing, mechanical, financial and wood working projects. Darrell also loved to trade “bad dad jokes” and winter weather reports with Deana.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cynthia, son Darrin, daughter, Deana, sisters-in-law Cecelia Hartman, Corinne Hartman, and Judy Folie, nephew Danny Folie, niece Angela Folie, and numerous friends. Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Ada Folie, brothers Vernon and Kenneth Folie, and brother-in-law David Hartman.
Visitation was held on Monday, June 24, 2024 from 4-7 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services 728 S Knowles Avenue New Richmond, WI.  A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 11 am at Christ Lutheran Church 510 Germain St, Somerset, WI with visitation from 10-11 am at the church.  Interment was in East Freeborn Lutheran Church Cemetery near Albert Lea, MN. Each of you have our heartfelt sympathy. My memories of Darrell go as far back as I can remember some of my siblings; he was another brother. Always kind (wrote letters back to me when he was in the service and addressed me as “Wee One”). Always patient (willing to watch me as I proudly showed him how I could print my name or let me read to him from the Dick and Jane book. And always a smile to share. Our world was made even better by having Darrell in it. You will remain in my prayers now and for time to come.

My deepest sympathies to Darrel’s family. Steve always enjoyed talking with Darrel when they met at a tractor event here in Mn. I would like to think maybe they have crossed paths in heaven or soon will!

We have been friends of Darrell and Cindy for many years and have enjoyed our dinners together and also helping them with the Oliver tractor bunch when they came to Darin’s house.. We will miss Darrell, and extend Cindy, Darin, Dee our deepest sympathy and prayers for healing in the months and years to come.

Words can not express the love we have for the Folie Family – true and trusted friends. If there was a need they found they could help with consider it done. Olivers brought us together and many years of fun were enjoyed with Darrel & Darrin at meetings, shows, tractor auctions and Darrin’s tractor show was a pleasure to help with. We put away many cheese curds with him – games and cards most enjoyed as well – motels or in home – memories we will cherish of Darrel and will continue to with his loved ones – enjoyed Cindy’s wonderful meals and Darrell’s and her hospitality. We will miss you dear friend. C & W

It was a very sad day when I heard Darrell was gone. He was a great person who was friends to many and helper to most. I enjoyed working and playing with Darrell and Cyndi for many years. When I needed help after surgery Darrell was first in line to help. When Del’s Leaking Lena boat wouldn’t run he was working on it out on the river and got it going. Darrell taught me a lot in Auditing and I am proud to be his friend. We shared the love of farming including tractors and Darrell always told me I liked the wrong color of green in good fun. I learned a lot about Olivers from him. Darrell loved his wife and family and brought joy to his many friends. I will miss him but he lives in our hearts and memories. Have fun plowing upstairs my friend, I hope God I’d an Oliver person!

My heartfelt deepest sympathy to you all. Cyber hugs…you have been in my thoughts & prayers. Darrell was a “Big Brother” to me, and I treasured the memories over the course of many years, as I watched the picture slide presentation. Darrell’s smile, kindness, love of life and love for his wife & children, are just a few of the wonderful traits he showed us all…and a large part of the memories that will live on forever! Again, hugs, thoughts & prayers to you all.

I came across this memorial and want to express my personal sympathy and sympathy on behalf of SCPC. I met Darrell and his tractors when they attended Pioneer Days and found him to be an enjoyable warm man. We were often blessed by Darrell and Darrin’s presence and contribution to our show. Beautiful tractors by a beautiful man is how I will remember him. It didn’t hurt that they were meadow green.
