Chuck Munson 08/23/2025

Chuck Munson 08/23/2025

Charles LeRoy Munson was born on April 6, 1945 to Edna & Vernet (Nutsy) Munson in New Richmond WI.  The payment for his birth was a whopping $46 – $20 was required at the time of admission on the day of his birth and $26 was paid at the time of release from the hospital.  The breakdown of charges included 9 days at $4 per day, delivery room $10, drugs $3, dressings $2 and $3 for the baby.  Chuck was your normal mischievous boy who was egged on by his older siblings, Harry and Verny Jo and harassed unmercilessly by younger brother Tom as he moved through his childhood into his young adult years.  He attended New Richmond Schools through grade 12 and immediately went to work in the auto parts world.  His first job was at Johnson Motors in New Richmond in the parts store and from there he went to M&L Motors as a parts man where he eventually moved into management.  He hated management.  However – he teamed up with Johnny Ball as his salesman and a wonderful lifelong friendship ensued.  Adventures were not limited to auto parts.  There were large amounts of coffee and stops at Leverty’s after work that were always on their agenda.  Johnny had been to the bank with the deposit one day and told Chuck that he needed to go get a roll of quarters.  Chuck said they didn’t need any but Johnny was insistent – there was a new teller at the bank that he had to see.  A roll of quarters later – Lynn was on the trail of Chuck Munson.  Long story short – she stalked him, asked him out, asked him to marry her a short 2 months later and married him 7 months later before he could say no.  They went on to have 2 children, Andrew and Amber who they loved obsessively.  Chuck spent his entire working career waiting to retire so he could golf whenever he wanted – and that’s exactly what he did.  Lynn continued to work to support his golf habit until she was able to retire.  He did not work to support her crafting and sewing habits.  Surprisingly, he continued to golf.  When Lynn retired, Chuck brought her a new puppy who they named Lucy who would become Chuck’s TV watching buddy.  Chuck watched between Lucy’s ears as her place was usually in between his knees on the recliner.  Or Lucy was tucked under his arm sleeping – which happened a lot.  They have been the best of buddies.  Chuck could often be found at East Immanuel during the week – refinishing pews and woodwork, changing furnace filters and making sure there was enough IceBite in the bucket.  He also served on the Church Council several times and was always a “behind the scenes” type of worker.  He was a master dishwasher at the many church dinners and enjoyed a donut or 6.  In 2015 a surprise came to Chuck and Lynn in the form of a daughter named Jody that found her father through searches.  Lynn quickly did the math and realized she was 11 years old when Jody was created, Jody was embraced into the family and has been a part of them ever since. There was some traveling in Chuck’s life – he loved Gettysburg, took a couple of drives around the country in whirlwind trips, cruised in Alaska twice, Western Carribean along with Norway just a year ago and had so much fun.  Chuck loved his God, Lucy, his wife (in that order), family and his friends.  Chuck passed away on Saturday, August 23rd at 1:45 am with Lynn by his side – after a ferocious 60 day battle with cancer.  He had a loving non-judgmental spirit with a sense of humor like no other – he will be missed by everyone who knew him.  Chuck is survived by his devoted wife and sidekick of 51 years, Lynn  – his beloved dog, Lucy – children, Andrew (wife Mari), Amber (husband Wayne) & Jody – Brothers, Harry (Julie) and Tom (Sheila) –  Brother-In-Law, Jim (Cheryl) Stewart – grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Edna & Vernet and his sister Verny Jo and his parents-in-law, Don & Millie Stewart.

Visitation for Chuck will be at East Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 28 from 4-7 pm, Friday 10-11 am with Chuck’s Life Celebration at 11 am on Friday, August 29 also at East Immanuel Lutheran Church (207 120th St.) Amery, with lunch to follow in the Fellowship hall.

Much love from the Munson clan! Chuck was so a sweet man. Jake absolutely loved him! I hope he’s golfing all day now!

Sorry to hear of Chuck’s passing. He was a great friend in high school and beyond. To many wonderful stories and memories to tell. We shared many cups of coffee at The Apple River Inn and many other coffee shops. Fond memories of the entire Packer crew that would gather and lay on the floor (hungover from the night before) at Munsons with your mom and dad as great hosts. I was told that people never die as long as you have memories. I raise my cup of coffee in a toast to you Chuck, I have many wonderful memories of you!!! Lynn, please accept Duffy and my sincere sympathies of the loss of Chuck. RIP my dear friend I just read in the NR news that you got a hole-in-one on the second hole in heaven, it’s about time.
