Christine Marie Schmit, age 61, died November 26, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Stillwater, MN, with loving family by her side. Christine was born on March 3, 1954, at Holy Family Hospital in New Richmond, the first of seven children to R. Emmett and Dorreen (Thompson) Schmit. Christine graduated from the New Richmond High School Class of 1972. She enlisted in the United States Army on October 2, 1972, and she re-enlisted on September 17, 1974. While in the Army, she trained as a medical specialist and was stationed in Germany. Christine received the National Defense Service Medal. She was honorably discharged on May 1, 1978. Christine was very proud that she and the National Anthem shared the same birthday. On May 3, 1974, Christine married Rudy Urbano Marrujo. They both served in the Army, and they resided in California. They divorced in 1979. Christine was an active member of the New Richmond American Legion and the Disabled American Vets. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a proud homeowner, and was a welcoming hostess to family and friends. She enjoyed working around her home, cooking, sewing, watching TV, listening to music, and her pet birds, Lemonade, Buddy, Sally and Benny. She was preceded in death by her father, R. Emmett Schmit. Christine is survived by her mother, Dorreen Schmit; sisters Jody (Victor) Martinez; Karen (David) Hanson; Mary Schmit; Colleen Schmit, and Kelly (Henry) Stephenson; her brother Peter (Evette) Schmit; nieces and nephews Scott (Amy) Casey; Andrea (Justin) Munoz; Maxwell Stephenson; Matthew Schmit; Carly Stephenson and Taylor Schmit. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 30 at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, New Richmond, officiated by Father John Anderson, with graveside services immediately following the Mass. A visitation will be held Sunday, November 29 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, at Cullen Crea Funeral Home, New Richmond. Funeral services entrusted to Cullen Crea Funeral Home, New Richmond. .
