Cheryl Garey

Cheryl Garey

Cheryl Garey passed away at the age of 65 on August 11, 2022, after a long and hard battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). She was born on February 3, 1957, to her father Herman Hansch and her mother Shirley Hansch (Buboltz). It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle because Cheryl never stopped fighting. No matter how hard it was for her to breathe, she was always determined to stay strong and have a positive outlook on life. Just because she is no longer here, doesn’t mean that she lost her fight. It means that she is in a better place and looking down on all of us from above.

Cheryl had so much love for her children and grandchildren and her life revolved around all of them. There wasn’t a day that went by where she wouldn’t reach out just to see how things were going. Even if it was just the “I hope you’re having a good day” message. She always knew how to make a bad day better and was there any time her family and friends needed her.

She found joy in going to garage sales, playing the slot machines, fishing, bingo, playing cribbage and other card games, and Yahtzee. She also had a passion for taking care of plants which could be seen by the multiple plants in every room of her apartment. Recently Cheryl also had a favorite pastime of meeting up with all of the wonderful people in her apartment for coffee time. Although those that knew Cheryl are fully aware she couldn’t stand the taste of coffee, she enjoyed drinking her water or can of pop and having conversations with everyone at “coffee” time. She also had gotten into crafting and made it her mission to have a festive and welcoming entryway door in her apartment for each holiday.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Shirley Hansch; and her sister, Barb Andert; as well as her ex-husband, Douglas Garey.

Cheryl is lovingly survived by her two sons, Bryan Garey (Heather Cahill) and Jefferey Garey; and her daughter, Shawndra (Ryan) Canfield; as well as her grandchildren, Brenden, Caleb, Serenity, Camrin, and Skyler. She is also survived by her beloved siblings, Deb (Walt) Briskie, David (Joy) Hansch, and Ron (Candice) Hansch, her nieces and nephews, and many more loving family and friends.

Please join us in celebrating her life Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 12PM (noon) at the Cullen Crea Funeral Home in New Richmond, WI. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to service at the Funeral Home.
