Shirley Louise Schermann, age 73, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of family.

Born on September 8, 1953, Shirley was the daughter of the late Bill and Lu Erickson.

Shirley was a very private person who appreciated the simple things in life and found happiness in everyday pleasures. She enjoyed word-find puzzles, collecting hummingbird figurines, and a good game of bingo. Earlier in life, she enjoyed gardening. She also loved antiques, especially furniture with claw feet, which always seemed to catch her eye.

Although she enjoyed her quiet and independent lifestyle, Shirley cherished visits and phone calls from her sons and grandsons. She always looked forward to those simple moments of connection with family.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Wayne Schermann; her grandson, Max Hale Espiritu; her parents; Bill & Lu Erickson; her siblings Darrel, Wayne, Roger, Shari Erickson, and Phyllis Barrett.

She is survived by her two sons, Barry (Kelli) Espiritu and Jonathan Espiritu; her three grandsons, Jordan, Jackson, and Easton Espiritu; and her siblings, Virgil (Beth) Erickson, Ron Erickson and Suz (David) Barrett and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley spent her final days in the home of her son Barry and daughter-in-law Kelli. Her family found comfort in having her close, hoping her remaining days would be peaceful, free from pain, and filled with love.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and those who knew her.

May she rest peacefully, reunited with the loved ones who went before her.

A memorial service honoring Shirley’s life is being planned. This obituary will be updated with the date, time, and location once arrangements have been finalized.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
